Tobias Rees works across what most careers and institutions keep apart: philosophy, art, and technology as a single project. He is a philosopher who builds, an academic who runs labs, a humanist inside AI.
He is co-founder and CEO of Stella Matutina — a school and R&D institute in a former monastery on Lake Lucerne, conceived as a Bauhaus for the age of AI — and the founder of Limn AI. His career has been a sequence of new institutional forms: founding Director of the Berggruen Institute; founder and CEO of Transformation of the Human, an early experiment in building a new Bauhaus; the Reid Hoffman Chair in the Humanities at the New School; the William Dawson Chair at McGill. He is a Senior AI 2050 Fellow at Schmidt Sciences and a Senior Visiting Fellow at Google.
